Zone Healing was researched and developed by Dr. Thurman Fleet. Dr. Fleet divided the body into six systems: Glandular, Eliminative, Nervous, Digestive, Muscular, and Circulatory.
Each system is controlled and directed through specific neurological associations in the brain and brainstem. He taught that all diseased conditions, aches and pains, and other discomforts experienced by the body can be attributed to disturbances in one or more of these six systems or "Zones."
His theory was that a disturbance in one or more of these systems affects the brain’s ability to direct the system to perform normal functions. Although a person might not notice the disturbance right away, given enough time and enough dysfunction the body eventually manifests disease instead of health.
The most advanced medical thought today validates Dr. Fleet’s ideas.
As far back as 1976 the president of the American Medical Association, Dr. Palmer, theorized that the overwhelming majority of disease stemmed from a functional cause and was stress-related. Some medical experts are now estimating that as much as 90% of ALL DISEASE is caused by the body’s inability to adapt to stress.

The patient is examined in order to determine which of the brain centers are not in harmony with the systems they control. This is done by palpating attachments of ligaments on the back of the patient’s head. These points are related to the six brain centers by nerve connections and therefore serve as reliable neurological indicators for the brain centers. As the body may be properly classified as an ELECTRICAL MACHINE, these 6 brain centers represent the POSITIVE POLE of the body, and specific related points in the spinal cord represent the NEGATIVE POLE of the body.
When a brain center is not sending the proper signals to its system, all bodily material associated with that system suffers. In order to correct this, specific points in the spinal cord are stimulated. Dr. Cathy uses manual spinal manipulation in order to stimulate the points in a zone. This is safe, effective, and does not involve drugs or surgery.
The closest example of what these manipulations are like is that they are similar to traditional chiropractic manipulations, with the important difference that they are used to stimulate the spinal cord instead of aligning the spine.
There are six sets of four points in the spinal cord (negative pole) that are related to the six brain centers (positive pole). Stimulation of the proper points sends energy in the form of an afferent signal up the spinal cord to the brain centers that need balancing. The balanced brain centers are then able to send out the proper signals to the body’s systems and the body is better able to heal itself.
Zone Healing & Diagnosis
Diagnosis has always been very inaccurate. Dr. C. Everett Koop has been quoted as stating that well over 50% of all medical diagnosis made in this country is made in error.
Zone Healing offers a method that eliminates the inaccuracy of the diagnostic process by enabling the patient to know exactly what is happening in their body at a causative, neurological level.
Instead of guessing the causes of specific symptoms, the ZONE method allows the doctor to know what messages the brain is sending to each one of the broad systems of the body, thereby arriving at an accurate diagnosis.
